i hate reality tv....despise it....would rather watch endless hours of movies i don't necessarily like (dumb and dumber, napoleon dynamite) than watch reality tv....however, because i still live with my parents (and sister, when she's home from school), and they like it, i have to watch hours of it -- american idol, dancing with the stars, so you think you can dance, america's got talent, etc.
you could argue that i could go to another room or go somewhere or do something else....those are good arguments, but here's why i don't....
going to another place entirely uses gas, which is expensive. sometimes i take advantage of this option, but i can't all the time.
i can go to another room, but then i don't get to see my family a lot and i'm stuck in one room for a long time....and that's never very fun.
i have taken to doing something else while in the same room, but i'm still around it and have to hear it (even with headphones on).
so, here i sit watching the finale of dancing with the stars because my parents are taping it and i need the noise to keep me awake while i work on stuff for school.
let me clarify the reason i dislike this type of tv so very much. for me, watching these shows create ample opportunity to criticize people and make fun of people. american idol is a wonderful example -- the first several episodes are made simply so audiences can laugh at someone else's expense. it makes me sad that we get so much joy from laughing at others. also, i know that i am far too easily tempted to be overly critical of people. so i stay away from these shows -- flee temptation, right?
i am not saying you're wrong if you watch these shows, nor am i saying that i'm never too critical of people and i never say things i shouldn't, etc. this is simply how i feel and why i don't like these shows.
thanks for listening to me vent.....
