27 dresses

I bought this movie today :) I've waited so long.....I know it's a chick flick and it's silly, but I love it..... I can't wait for Narnia to come out....but I am disappointed that in one of the commercials, Susan and Caspian seem to have some sort of relationship going on, but nonetheless, I'm excited. I'm putting a puzzle together. It's been a long time. I've successfully avoided doing work for about a week and a half. Partly because I've been sick, partly because I just haven't really wanted to. I'm over a lot in my life right now. The tricky part is living where I am while being a little tired of it and wishing for something else. I miss my friends who are far away :(

miscellaneous....

Oh my goodness....it feels like it should be Friday. And it's only Wednesday. Blah. And there are many 10 year olds in my life that I'm tired of. So, my students are making a movie about recycling. It's their attempt to save the world :) They've written the script, planned the scenes, done the costumes and now we're filming. When we're done, we're going to edit it and have a premiere party. They are being great about it -- most of the time. It's actually been a lot of fun. Yes, it is a whole lot of work and it adds some pressure to our daily schedule, but it's been an interesting project for us. I hope they're learning something through the experience. When I'm watching the scenes they've filmed or watching them act, I'm often amazed at how mature these kids are being -- the same kids who seem to care little about anyone but themselves and typically don't put a lot of effort into their work. But this project makes them want to wor

good for the soul

So, in my last post, I mentioned that I was headed to Atlanta to spend some time with some friends from college and that it would be the first time all of us had been together in about a year. I know I said it would be a surprising day.....and it was. Surprisingly good. The 5 of us have been through a lot together. A whole lot. The good, the bad, and the ugly. But, despite everything that we've experienced together, done to each other, and done with each other (or maybe because of it), the friendships remain. Maybe stronger than they were to begin with. I met 3 of these girls -- Becky, Steph, and Meghan -- freshman year through a mutual friend. They had all gone to high school together. I wasn't thinking that these girls would be such good friends when we met. We started hanging out together all the time. There were several times when we'd be in each other's dorms (along with a few other people) until real early in the morning. Many of my memories of freshman year of co

today....

In a random turn of events, I'm headed to Atlanta today to spend some time with some girls from college. We were friends from freshman year and roomed together our junior year. As many friendships go, however, we drifted a little our senior year. I'm pretty sure this will be the first time we've all spent time together in at least a year, if not longer. Should be a fun, interesting, surprising day. :)

jamaica...

Beautiful island, wonderful people. A piece of my heart will always be in Jamaica. I'm glad I waited a few days to really think about it and to process everything. The last time I went was 2003, my senior year of high school. I've loved the island and its people from the first time I went, so I was excited to go back. I knew that this trip would be very different from the ones I had been on in high school for a few reasons: 1) I was going as a leader this time, 2) the leadership of the student ministries was different, 3) the high schoolers were different (obviously), and 4) I knew that the trip had been different the last few years. Because of all these things, I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I was still excited. Preparing for the trip was great -- it didn't take too long, I fit everything in my suitcase (which is really unusual for me -- I like to prepare for everything), and I was 10 pounds under. I couldn't believe it -- this has never happened to me be

home again, home again

And I'm back. Jamaica was amazing, as it always is. Unchanged, and yet different at the same time. I was reminded of and challenged and encouraged by a lot. I feel like I learned some things too, and I gained some new friends. I'll put more up later, probably, but for now....I'm back :)
