or have you forgotten....

so, today i made some really stinkin' awesome oreo rice krispies. i got the recipe from annie's eats, one of the many food blogs i read. not only do they look scrumptious, they taste it, too. very chocolatey and very rich. but oh so good.

right now i'm watching prince caspian.
there's a part in the middle of the movie where they are trying to decide whether or not to invade miraz's castle. one of the soldier's says that he will die fighting, if necessary. lucy speaks up and there's an exchange between her and peter that goes something like this:
lucy: that's what i'm worried about.
peter: what?
lucy: you're all acting as though there are only 2 options -- dying here, or dying there.
peter: i'm not sure you've really been listening, lu.
lucy: no, you're not listening. or have you forgotten who really defeated the white witch, peter?
peter replies by saying they've waited for aslan long enough and they go to miraz's castle, losing the battle and many of their side as well. soon after this, caspian is being tempted to take the side of the white witch and peter and edmund rush into help. as peter is facing the witch, edmund sticks his sword through her ice wall and gets rid of her. as the wall falls, peter is left standing there, staring at a huge carving of aslan.

something about this moment in the movie really got to me today. no matter what. no matter how strongly we feel tempted. through everything. He is there, even if i can't see Him right away (or at all). no matter how strong the enemy seems. even when i forget at times. i know Who defeated the enemy and Who is always there. i know Who has it all in His hands and Who is always victorious. i know Who loves me and fights for me and will never leave me. Who cares, protects, guides, and offers peace and hope. my Who? my Father and Savior.
i know Who.

also during this part of the movie, the squirrel and reepicheep the mouse are talking and the squirrel says, "we could collect nuts" , trying to offer suggestions on not being starved out of aslan's how by the telmarines. reepicheep looks at him and says, "yes! and we could throw them at the telmarines. shut up."
i laugh everytime. it's just a funny line :)

mmm. i do love me some narnia.

His Straight, Not Mine

Whenever I have a huge decision to make, I stress. My default mode is "what if I'm wrong??" This has been true for the last 10+ years of my life. College, mission trips during college, where to teach after college, quitting teaching, moving to Baltimore, leaving Baltimore, beginning seminary. All decisions fraught with questions, doubts, fears. And I'm there again. Graduated from seminary, looking for the next step. Wondering. Doubting. Questioning. Hoping. Dreaming. Fearing.  Every big decision is the same. You'd think I'd have learned by now just to decide or jump or trust or whatever. But no. The reason for this struggle is that I so badly long to do what I am meant to do. I long to follow God where He is leading, to fulfill the purpose He has planned for me from the beginning. But I'm only human. And so how on earth do I know what God has planned for me? And how on earth can I possibly do that without screwing it up completely?  I look at vers...

good for the soul

So, in my last post, I mentioned that I was headed to Atlanta to spend some time with some friends from college and that it would be the first time all of us had been together in about a year. I know I said it would be a surprising day.....and it was. Surprisingly good. The 5 of us have been through a lot together. A whole lot. The good, the bad, and the ugly. But, despite everything that we've experienced together, done to each other, and done with each other (or maybe because of it), the friendships remain. Maybe stronger than they were to begin with. I met 3 of these girls -- Becky, Steph, and Meghan -- freshman year through a mutual friend. They had all gone to high school together. I wasn't thinking that these girls would be such good friends when we met. We started hanging out together all the time. There were several times when we'd be in each other's dorms (along with a few other people) until real early in the morning. Many of my memories of freshman year of co...
